Man Shot Dead During Robbery

Khurram Ashraf, a 30 year old man originally from Pakistan, was shot dead last night as he left the money exchange shop where he worked. He was described as “highly educated”, and was studying 2 – 3 days a week while he worked part time in Longsight, Manchester.

He left work shortly after 6pm after closing up the shop. He was accompanied by Mr Waqas, a colleague who drove the silver Mercedes they were headed for, and a friend who doesn’t wish to be named.

Mr Ashraf was carrying a laptop and a bag containing a large sum of cash, believed to be around £10,000. The gunman approached the three men holding a pistol and ordered them to hand the bag over. After a struggle, the gunman fired three shots, one of which hit Mr Ashraf in the stomach. He was taken to hospital but sadly died overnight.

A man of 20 years has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being held in custody by police for questioning. Detectives have not yet traced the gun used in the incident.
