Oscar Mania
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last week, you will have heard that the world’s largest and most glamorous award ceremony, the Oscars, took place this weekend. Millions tuned in to watch it on their televisions, and the rich and famous walked the red carpet to attend the star studded event.
Women such as our gorgeous London escorts love to watch the entrance, as celebrities pull up in lavish limousines and the press clamour to get photos and interviews. The discussions here are usually about who is the best and worst dressed, with hoards of extravagant designer dresses worn by the ladies. Most of the men stick to the traditional tuxedo and black tie.
Following the Baftas, everyone was curious to see whether director James Cameron would be successful with his blockbuster flick ‘Avatar’; his ex wife has stolen the show at the Bafta awards with her low budget film ‘The Hurt Locker’, much to the surprise of the public and critics. To win an Oscar is probably the highest praise you can get, highly acclaimed by anyone and everyone in the film world.
Last night, Kathryn Bigalow came out on top once again as her film scooped no less than six awards! She made history by becoming the first woman to ever win ‘Best Director’. There was extra pressure on her because she was up against her ex husband in this category, but James Cameron was the first to congratulate her on her win from the row behind. Bigalow described her win as “the moment of a lifetime”. It also happened to be International Women’s Day, very relevant for this big win! The Hurt Locker focuses on the heroic bomb disposal experts serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and when accepting her Oscar Biglalow dedicated it to “the people who risk their lives on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan”.
The ceremony took place at the Kodak theatre in Hollywood, and has been the talk of the town in LA for weeks. There are plentiful celebrity parties before and after the event, bringing people from all over the world to Hollywood for the week.
The Razzies also took place this weekend on the Saturday, awarding prizes for the worst in each category. For the first time, an A list actress was up for the worst actress at the Razzies at the same time as being up for the Best Actress for The Blind Side – and Sandra Bullock won both! She was a good sport, being the only celebrity nominated to collect her Razzie award in person. She has said that she will display it next to her Oscar.
