Winter Sun in Corfu
The Ionian Greek Islands have become an increasingly popular holiday destination amongst Brits over the last decade. Zante, Kefalonia and Paxos are just some of the Islands that offer cheap package deals over the summer season, with beach side resorts catering to your every need.
There is a similar feel on most of the islands, with a pleasant mix of traditional culture in the old towns and all the familiarities of home in the tourist resorts. The group of Greek Islands consists of seven main ones, with several smaller islands included in the grouping.
Corfu is one of the most popular choices. With hot sunshine during the summer months, there is a large attraction to British and European tourists. However, winter months are still very pleasant and more mild and sunny than England, so it can be a wonderful place to visit throughout the year. Prices also drop dramatically outside the peak season.
The great thing about travelling during Autumn and Winter months is that the resorts are not overrun with other tourists or families with small children; you always get a place by the pool, and restaurants run discounted prices. The downside is that a lot of the tourist attractions will close over the winter months, such as the water park.
One place that is highly recommended to visit at any time of year is Corfu town – it is where the local culture really shines. Made up of a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets, the town has heaps of character and plenty of things to do. You are more likely to find tasty traditional Greek food here than in any of the tourist resorts; prices are very reasonable and dishes such as lamb kleftiko, beef stifado and moussaka are prepared to perfection. If you haven’t tried Greek food, it is highly recommended because it suits the British pallet; nothing is too hot or spicy, just rich and full of flavour.
Also found in the town are quaint market stalls selling products such as hand crafted wood, jewellery and the local speciality – kumquat liqueur. You can try free samples on the street to see if it suits your taste buds. If it is to your liking, you can also buy other kumquat products such as jam and sweets.
Escorts in Shoreditch love the bohemian feel of the Corfu Town streets and enjoy taking holidays there. They like to top up their tans during the day, dine in the evening with a gentleman companion then hit one of Corfu’s hip night clubs. There’s something for everyone in Corfu!
