Top Fashion Designer Commits Suicide

In breaking news, it has just been confirmed that top fashion designer Alexander McQueen has taken his own life.

You will often see glamorous London escorts with handbags designed by McQueen; over the last decade it has become a coveted brand and affordable to only a select group of people.

The 40 year old man, who was openly homosexual, was found dead this morning in his London home. Paramedics pronounced McQueen dead at the scene, and there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Fashionistas across the country have already begun mourning the loss of such a great UK talent.

During his time in the fashion industry, McQueen won ‘British Designer of the Year’ four times and was named “the hooligan of English fashion” in 1996. He began his career on Savile Row, learning how to tailor suits for the likes of Prince Charles by training in Gieves and Hawkes. He went on to be named as the head designer in the House of Givenchy, succeeding John Galliano.

The shocking suicide has taken place just days before the beginning of London Fashion Week, where Alexander McQueen is one of the leading names. His new collection was due to be unveiled at Paris Fashion Week. Born ‘Lee McQueen’, the designer’s family have asked press and public to respect their privacy at this difficult time. No further comment will be made at the moment, though a spokesperson for Alexander McQueen has called the news “terrible” and “tragic”. The family are said to be devastated.

Three years ago, one of McQueen’s best friends also committed suicide. Isabella Blow helped McQueen rise to fame after seeing his designs when he was still unknown; she bought his entire graduation collection at Central Saint Martins College. The pair became very close and he was distraught when her life ended. In the past he had refused to comment about their relationship. His mother had also passed away recently, prompting him to write some concerning messages on his Twitter page.

This is a tragic loss for the fashion world; the news only broke a matter of hours ago but already the tributes are pouring in for this great loss. The world’s top designers and models are deeply shocked and saddened by the unexpected death of Alexander McQueen. He may be gone, but his work will live on.
