Chelsea’s Shopping Ban!

Following their purchase of young French football genius Gael Kakuta, a sanction has been passed by FIFA to ban Chelsea FC from registering any new players in the next two transfer windows, meaning they cannot take on anyone new until 2011.

Kakuta was under a French apprentice contract at the time he was poached by Chelsea, before he even turned 16. Lens has accused the club of stealing Kakuta, who had been with them since he was just 8 and a half years old. Chelsea had been warned of the dangers but decided to go ahead with their decision – one which brought on grave consequences.

FIFAs decision to enforce the ban was a shock to everyone at Stamford Bridge, but Lens President Gervais Martel said that this was the decision he expected. He has called Chelsea “thieves” for capturing their star player.

Today, a lawyer has warned that Chelsea’s appeal against the ban will probably be fast tracked through the system. The club are hoping that they will be able to freeze the ban, making it possible for them to buy new players in January and maybe even during the summer, however if the appeal is fast tracked then these attempts will be futile. The CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) would have the power to freeze the ban.

If the case is held before Christmas, which is a real possibility according to leading lawyer Adam Morallee, then Chelsea will completely miss the next transfer window in the new year. A similar case occurred with the Swiss team Sion in May; FIFA also banned that team from any transfers during the next two windows. After that club’s appeal, the CAS suspended their case enabling Sion to buy players this summer. The case is expected to judged in November. Chelsea could take the same route as Sion in an attempt to make their last amendments to the team before the ban is imposed once and for all.

The ban has come as a massive blow to Chelsea fans, but rival team’s supporters have found the whole incident hilarious and satisfying. Chelsea have one of the best teams in the footballing world, making them a huge threat to other clubs. This ban may give others a chance to catch up. If you’re a mourning Blues supporter, taking comfort in a London escort may be the only way to cheer yourself up!
