George Michael to Serve Time

George Michael has been famous for decades. He first shot onto our radars as the lead singer of ‘Wham’ in the 1980s, known as a heart throb to women across the UK. Some of our escort girls even remember dancing to hits such as ‘Club Tropicana’ and ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go Go’ as children! Millions of hearts were broken when the news broke that the star, real name Georgios Panayiotou, was homosexual – but it was good news for all of the gay men who idolised him!

His career has been full of drama, including previous arrests for ‘engaging in a lewd act’ in public (Michael famously indecently propositioned a police officer in a public toilet) and has also been picked up more than once for the possession of cannabis. Last July, he landed in hot water when he crashed his Range Rover into the window of Snappy Snaps, the Hampstead branch of the photo shop. Police officers found him slumped at the wheel of his car, and he appeared to be ‘spaced out’ and confused. Again he was found to be in the possession of cannabis (a class B drug in the UK), and toxicology reports later showed there to be traces of the chemical in his body.

Michael, 47, has been open in the past about his use of cannabis and of cruising public places for sex – Hampstead Heath is renowned for being a ‘dogging’ spot. It seemed inevitable that sooner or later, the singer would end up serving time behind bars if he continued to disregard the law. Many complain that celebrities are show leniency when they break the law, but at the court hearing today, the judge explained that he had no other choice but to send George Michael to jail.

Served an 8 week custodial sentence, Michael is expected to spend 4 weeks in prison and to spend the remaining 4 weeks on probation. He has also been ordered to pay a fine of £1,250 and has been banned from driving for 5 years. For a star as big as Michael, paying the fine shouldn’t be a problem – and he can probably afford a private chauffeur too!

George Michael is said to be trying to get his life back on track, finally writing songs again and leading a more healthy lifestyle. Lets hope that after serving this sentence, he won’t have any more run ins with the law!
