James Bond – Is it All Over for 007?

James Bond is a British legend. Having been played by Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan and most recently Daniel Craig, the secret agent has become a character close to our hearts. Created by the writer Ian Fleming back in 1953, James Bond started off as novels and short stories before being made into a successful series of films in 1962.

EON Productions have been in charge of producing the films, of which there have been 22 so far. The last flick was ‘Quantum of Solace’ released in 2008; as with every other James Bond film, there was a beautiful woman cast to seduce 007. In this installment she was played by sultry actress Eva Green, but the role of a ‘Bond girl’ is coveted by women all across the UK. Many of our Bond Street escorts have fantasised about what it would be like to be the other kind of Bond girl!

This week, the news emerged that the next James Bond film production has been put on hold indefinitely due to the massive debt owed by its home studio, MGM. The studio had hoped to sell or have some reconstruction to ease the $3.7 billion debt, but unfortunately nothing has gone through and now the future of MGM is uncertain. Until these problems are solved, the 23rd James Bond film can not take their production any further. Originally, the film was due for release at the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012, but now it is unknown whether it will ever be finished.

The Oscar winning Sam Mendes was set to direct the new Bond film, though there have been rumours that this upset the screen writer Peter Morgan, who subsequently left the production. With these problems halting the film altogether, they risk losing Mendes on top of all the other hindrances.

This news will come as a massive disappointment to die hard James Bond fans; 007 is a legend, and never before has there been any doubt about the future of the films. There are still top actors queuing up for a role in the movies, and music artists queuing up to record the theme tunes. In the past, these have been sung by icons such as Dame Shirley Bassey, Duran Duran and Madonna more recently. Hopefully MGM will be able to manage their debt and continue on with the great legacy that is James Bond.
